Guides
Recording discrepancies at handover correctly
If something is noticed at handover – a dented corner, a triggered tilt indicator, a missing package – what matters is recording it immediately. A note at handover is far more meaningful than a report days later.
What matters
- Note immediately
- Record the discrepancy on the delivery note or handover record, countersigned by both sides.
- Take photos
- Photograph packaging, indicators and labels before anything is moved.
- Check contents promptly
- Hidden damage only shows when unpacking – check and report promptly.
- Report quickly
- Deadlines apply to damage reports; clarify details with your insurer.
Planning questions
We clarify these points before quoting – the earlier they are known, the more precise the plan.
- What exactly was noticed?
- Was it noted at handover?
- Are there photos?
- Were the contents checked?
- Has the insurer been informed?

Questions and answers: Discrepancies at handover
What to do if the packaging is damaged at handover?
Note it immediately on the delivery note or record, take photos and have it countersigned. Then check the contents.
What is hidden damage?
Damage that only becomes visible when unpacking. It should be checked and reported promptly because deadlines apply.
May acceptance be refused if damage is visible?
That depends on the case. Usually it is better to accept with a note; if in doubt, ask your insurer.
