Goods value and insurance when transporting high-value goods
Anyone shipping high-value goods should clarify liability beforehand – not after damage occurs. The carrier's statutory liability is limited and based on weight, not value. For small, expensive goods there is therefore often a gap.
What matters
- Statutory liability
- In road haulage it is limited in amount and based on weight – with high value per kilogram it often falls short.
- Your own insurance
- Many companies have their own transport or goods insurance. Check whether it covers the transport.
- Additional insurance
- By agreement, additional insurance can be taken out for the transport; the quote states the conditions.
- Proof of value
- In the event of damage, proof of value is needed, such as an invoice or appraisal.
Planning questions
We clarify these points before quoting – the earlier they are known, the more precise the plan.
- Roughly how high is the goods value?
- Do you have your own transport insurance?
- Does it cover this transport?
- Should additional insurance be considered?
- Is proof of value available?
What we need from you
- Goods value (in conversation)
- Insurance status
- Type of goods
- Date
What we do for you
What we organise
- Individual planning of your consignment – handling, date and handover aligned
- Direct transport without transhipment and documented handover by agreement
- Additional insurance on request – scope clearly agreed in the quote
Good to know
An entered goods value does not trigger automatic insurance cover. Check your existing insurance – additional transport insurance can be agreed in the quote on request.
How it works
- 01
Request
You state category of goods, rough route, date and special requirements – confidential details only in conversation.
- 02
Review
We discuss value and insurance status and state in the quote what applies.
- 03
Quote
You receive a quote with the agreed scope – direct transport, handover and insurance as discussed.
- 04
Execution
Transport on the agreed conditions; additional insurance is confirmed before the transport.
Questions and answers: Goods value and insurance
Why does statutory liability often fall short for high-value goods?
Because it is limited by weight. A light, expensive device is then covered for only a fraction of its value.
Can Logisticoo take out additional insurance?
By agreement, yes. Whether and on what conditions is clarified before the quote.
Does the goods value have to be in the first request?
No. We clarify it in the requirements call; the form does not ask for it.
