Additional insurance for high-value consignments – by agreement
A carrier's statutory liability is limited per kilogram – for valuable goods it often covers only a small part of the value. On request we discuss additional insurance. Scope and conditions are agreed per order.
What matters
- Statutory liability is limited
- Under the German Commercial Code and the CMR Convention, liability is limited per kilogram. For light, valuable goods the gap to the value is large.
- Check your own insurance
- Many companies have transit or cargo insurance. First check whether it covers this transport.
- Matched to your goods value
- We agree additional insurance with declared value and conditions for exactly your consignment.
- Clearly in the quote
- What is insured and to what extent is stated in writing in your quote.
Planning questions
We clarify these points before quoting – the earlier they are known, the more precise the plan.
- What is the value of the consignment (in conversation, not in the form)?
- Is there already insurance covering the transport?
- Which risks should be covered?
- Does your insurer have requirements on transport mode or handover?
- Who bears the transport risk under the delivery term?
What we need from you
- Request for additional insurance (form)
- Value and conditions in conversation
- Existing insurance
- Delivery term
What we do for you
What we organise
- Individual planning of your consignment – handling, date and handover aligned
- Direct transport without transhipment and documented handover by agreement
- Additional insurance on request – scope clearly agreed in the quote

- 04

Transport with the agreed insurance scope; documentation at takeover and handover if agreed.
Questions and answers: Additional insurance by agreement
Is my consignment automatically insured for its full value?
No. Statutory liability is limited per kilogram; additional insurance is agreed per order.
How is the amount of additional insurance determined?
Based on goods, goods value, route and conditions. We clarify this with you and record the agreed scope in the quote.
Do I have to enter the goods value in the form?
No. In the form you only tick that you would like to discuss additional insurance; the value is clarified in conversation.
